The annual City Nature Challenge (CNC) is back, and it’s time to show the world the incredible biodiversity living right in our backyard. From April 24 to 27, join thousands of people across the globe in this massive citizen science bio-blitz.
Whether you are a seasoned naturalist or just love a walk in the park, your observations help scientists better understand and protect our local ecosystems.
🗓️ Key Dates for Your Diary
April 24 – 27: Snapshot Period. Explore and photograph any plants, animals, or fungi you find!
April 28 – May 3: Upload and ID. Ensure all your sightings are on iNaturalist and help others identify their finds.
🛠️ How to Participate
It’s as simple as Point, Shoot, and Upload. You can contribute in two ways:
On the go: Download the iNaturalist app on your smartphone to upload photos instantly.
At home: Use your digital camera and upload your records via your computer.
📍 Local Impact: Hobsons Bay & Jawbone Marine Sanctuary
This is a fantastic opportunity to build vital data for Jawbone Marine Sanctuary and the Crystals. Every sighting you record within our local area will automatically feed into the Hobsons Bay project site, helping us track our local flora and fauna.
You’ll also be able to see real-time leaderboards to see how Hobsons Bay stacks up against other councils—and how Melbourne is performing on the global stage!
